The Weird Stops Country Ride
21/07/2018 @ 09:00 - 22:00
Our long time friend Kristian Slatina will be the host for this beautiful saturday ride to Alton!
Meet opposite the Kingston train Station at 9.30 to leave at 10 am sharp (you can get a train to Kingston from Waterloo with a direct service in 30mins with your Oyster card).
The total distance will be 89 km, finishing at Alton train station.
For those not fancing doing the whole ride, there will be the alternative to join from Horsley train station at around 11.30 am (64km, or at your own peril Shalford, change at Guildford)
The route will take us out from Kingston and will be a mix of main roads and quiet lanes with the odd traffic by the village fete .
It is not a flat but a quite hilly route with an occasional off-road ride and even with a slower pace, we would recommend being fit for a 100Km ride for attempting this one.
We will stop at a few shops for water and snacks to bring along and of course there will be our usual final stop at the pub!
Other stops will include an ancient church in Albury park, by the ruins of Waverley Abbey, general ‘Monty’s’ WW2 hero’s grave by another church, stop fishing in the abandoned village of Hartley Mauditt and finally, check out some Lavender fields.
We will take a direct train back to Waterloo via Clapham( journey lasts around 1h13m) or via Woking , tickets workout at just under 20, we might get an extra discount in case of a big group.
